6 Ways To Protect Plants In The Winter ─ BuzzFeed Nifty

Get your life together with the Nifty Organization Journal: bit.ly/2AYkXm2

Here is what you'll need!

SUPPLIES
Newspaper
Tarp
Electric fan
Corrugated paper
Burlap
Black trash bags

INSTRUCTIONS
1. Move potted plants indoors.
2. Water plants before frost comes. This creates released heat and prevents damage.
3. Cover plants with newspaper or a tarp. Tie or weigh down to secure.
4. Set up an electric fan to create a light breeze. Plants don’t “feel” wind like people do. The breeze helps prevent frost from settling.
5. Wrap corrugated paper around the young trees with thin bark. Secure with rubber band. This prevents the bark from splitting due to the change in temperature.
6. Cover mature trees with burlap or black trash bags. Avoid using clear plastic which can overheat the plant. Remove covering once the ground begins to warm up.
