Here is what you'll need!

Hidden Compartment Table

MATERIALS:

2 small coffee tables
Long ruler
Box cutter
Wood glue
Wood pieces
Spackle
Taping knife
Spray paint
Hinges
Gas spring
Customizable foam inserts (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Remove the legs from the table.
2. On the back of the table outline a square about 2 inches from the edge of the table going inward.
3. Carefully use a ruler and box cutter to remove the inner square of the coffee table. Set aside the square cut out.
4. Remove the insides of the the table. Don’t forget to remove any pieces hidden in the corners.
5. Measure out the space inside the table and cut out pieces of wood to fill that space. Secure wood pieces in with wood glue to create a flush look. Repeat this on all 4 sides of the table.
6. Add a generous amount of wood glue to the center of the table. Glue on the previously cut square cut out.
7. As an optional step, fill any holes on the table with spackle. Smooth out with a taping knife for a flush look.
8. Spray paint the back and inside of the table to create a uniformed look.
9. Repeat process on a second table top.
10. Attach the two pieces together using 2 hinges. Pre drill holes to prevent the wood from splitting.
11. Attach a rectangular piece of wood on the top left and right inner corners of the bottom table piece. The piece of wood should be big enough to support the gas springs. Check the instructions of the gas springs for measurements.
12. Attach the the gas springs to the support piece following the manufacturing instructions.
13. Reattach the legs to the table.
14. Add customizable foam inserts to create fitted storage compartments.
