Make beautiful eco-friendly plantable seed paper with this easy recipe, and give your family and friends unique party favors, greeting card and gift tags. It’s the gift that keeps on giving!

MATERIALS
Any kind of matte paper (construction paper, newspaper etc. Avoid catalog or glossy magazine paper)
Plant seeds of your choice
Mesh screen or embroidery hoop
Drop cloth and/or absorbent material

INSTRUCTIONS
1. Tear or cut up your paper into small pieces and soak in a tub of water overnight.
2. After soaking, blend the paper in small batches (1-2 handfuls is best, otherwise the blender blades tend to get stuck). Add more water if it’s too thick and not blending well. The finer your mesh screen, the finer you can blend. Otherwise stick to a chunky pulp first.
3. Strain the pulp and mix in a handful of seeds. Avoid completely pressing all the water out in the strainer as it may be too loose to set properly.
4. Lay out a drop cloth and/or an absorbent towel on your table as the next part will get a little messy!
5. Spread the pulp onto your screen. We found that gently patting the mulch with your hands is the best way to squeeze out the excess water and spread out the paper without breaking it up too much.
You can try using a rolling pin over wax paper to spread out the paper also, but be gentle and you may still need to pat out the gaps in the paper.
Once your paper is smoothed out and there aren’t too many holes, let it dry. It’ll take a day or two, but if you’re short on time, a hairdryer on low setting can speed up the drying time.
Once dry, your paper is ready to be cut into cute shapes or torn organically into shape.
